Dream BIG, Work Harder!

(A chronicle from a previous blog, inspired by my father Doug Werginz)

How do you get there from here? I ask this question quite often to myself and I ToddWideafitam also asked the same question frequently by others. The answer is always a simple one……Dare to Dream. A decade ago I never would have given my health a second thought. Well that’s not completely true; I did think about how unhealthy I was but I really never gave it a long and hard look because the task of getting from there to here was absolutely insurmountable in “my head”.

The biggest challenge is always the 6 inches between your ears. You procrastinate because it is too hard, you don’t have time or you’re never going to be able to do it. So why do we not take care of ourselves first and foremost? It all boils down to these two things.

  1. 1)  Fear
  2. 2)  Excuses

And, if you really want to take this one step further, it is all really just excuses. Fear is really an excuse.

Statistics now show that by the year 2016, obesity-related diseases will overtake smoking as the Number 1 preventable killer in the U.S. So, the consequences are the following if you continue on the same path (and mind you, not everyone is here).

  • You shorten your life-span exponentially as your BMI goes up. BMI is an interesting topic in and of itself. Let’s just say I know plenty of unhealthy and reckless “normal BMI” people. You will spend more money and time on healthcare and this alone could be financially disastrous.
  • Like it or not, you are a role model to someone and those “someone’s” look up to how you’re living.

I was constantly reminded by my father to Dream Big.

Not necessarily on health but on everything. I never want to settle for the status quo and neither should you. You are way better than you think you are and have more strength and determination than you ever thought. You need to see the end in mind and take it in incremental steps. If you try and do it all at once and expect it all to come without work, you are setting yourself up for failure. There needs to be a fundamental shift in your lifestyle and it will take a lot of work so don’t kid yourself. Slowly over time, which is realistic and achievable mind you, you will see results and will be proud if you make it a priority and are consistent. I guarantee that if you dream big and work hard at anything you do, you will see the fruits of your labor pay off….

“Bravery means finding something more important than fear.” – Michael Hyatt

I recently read this powerful article that resonates with me from on Inc.comConsequently, it says, “courage without meaning is just recklessness. Brave people aren’t fearless; they’ve simply found something that matters more to them than the fear they’re facing. Say you’re scared to start a business. Find a reason that has greater meaning than the fear: your family’s future, your desire to make a difference, or your dream of a more fulfilling life. When you find a greater meaning, you’ll find the courage to overcome your fear.”

It’s all about your Core.
